Effective Altruism and Judaism Shabbat Dinner in Bushwick
June 30 @ 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm
Free
Join us to celebrate Shabbat, connect with new people, and explore topics relevant to effective altruism — a social movement dedicated to figuring out how we can do the most good with our limited resources — and Jewish tradition. All are welcome regardless of your familiarity with effective altruism or your relationship with Judaism.
The dinner is being organized in partnership with Effective Altruism for Jews, a global community of Jews coming together to help tackle the world’s most pressing problems effectively.
At the dinner, we hope to engage in discussion about connections and tensions between effective altruism and Jewish tradition, exploring questions such as:
- What do Jewish texts and tradition have to say about our obligations to the global poor, animals, and future generations?
- Is there a uniquely “Jewish” approach to doing good?
- How should we balance concern for Jewish priorities vs. global priorities?
There will be vegetarian and vegan options but we don’t have a strictly kosher kitchen. Please get in touch if you have any questions!
Location will be in Bushwick at a private residence near the J Train.
