NYC JEWISH SOCIAL
Costume parties, megillah readings and the biggest night out on the Jewish calendar. Every Purim event we know about for Jewish 20s and 30s, in one place.
Purim is the single busiest night of the year for Jewish 20s and 30s in New York. Purim begins at sundown on Monday, March 22, 2027 and ends at nightfall on Tuesday, March 23. A dozen parties run on the same night across Manhattan and Brooklyn, so the question is rarely whether there is something on, but which room you want to be in. Almost all of them are run by other organizations around the city — synagogues, Chabads, JCCs and independent organizers — and we gather them here in one place.

Costumes are the norm rather than the exception, at the parties at least. Events fall into four kinds.
The main event. Several hundred people, a DJ, a venue in Manhattan or Brooklyn, and everyone in costume. These are the tickets that sell out, often a week or more ahead.
The reading of the Book of Esther, which ranges from traditional to full comedy performance, and is usually followed by a party in the same building. Free or cheap, and no costume required.
The Purim daytime meal, run as a long lunch or a brunch. Slower, more food, more conversation, and the easiest one to bring a friend to.
Packing mishloach manot baskets and volunteering, which are part of the holiday proper. Daytime, sociable, and a good way to meet people without a dance floor.
