Hanukkah Events in NYC

Eight nights of parties, candle lightings, latkes and open bars across the city. Every Hanukkah event we know about for Jewish 20s and 30s, in one place.

Every Hanukkah event in NYC, in one place

Hanukkah, Chanukah, however you spell it, is the busiest stretch of the winter for Jewish 20s and 30s in New York. Hanukkah begins at sundown on Friday, December 4 and runs through nightfall on Saturday, December 12. Events run across all eight nights, and the biggest parties land on the weekend nights, which are also the ones that sell out first. Almost all of them are run by other organizations around the city — synagogues, Chabads, JCCs and independent organizers — and we gather them here in one place.

What Hanukkah events in NYC look like

Eight nights means eight chances to go out, and the events split into roughly four kinds.

Parties and open bars

The big nights out. A few hundred people, a DJ, an open bar and a menorah somewhere in the room. Weekend nights go first, and the largest ones sell tickets weeks ahead.

Candle lightings

Public menorah lightings, often outdoors and usually followed by drinks, doughnuts or a dinner nearby. Short, free and easy to drop into after work.

Latkes and sufganiyot

Food-led nights: latke cook-offs, doughnut tastings, dinners and brunches. Lower key than the parties and better for actually talking to people.

Shabbat during Hanukkah

Friday-night dinners that fall inside the holiday, with candles for both. Usually 20 to 60 people around a table, and a good first event if you have never been to one.
