JSC Event FAQ
βΊWhat should I expect at a JSC event?
Think curated, social-first events β not loud club chaos. We pick great venues, keep the crowd intentional, and design events where it's actually easy to meet people. Expect a mix of new faces and regulars, a friendly atmosphere, and just enough structure to help conversations happen naturally. Some events lean social (happy hours, mixers), others are more communal (Shabbats, dinners) β but the goal is always the same: real connections.
Who can attend JSC events?
JSC is built for Jewish young professionals in NYC, generally ages 30β45. Most events are by approval only β we review profiles (including having a clear, real photo) to keep a safe, balanced, and intentional group. If it's your first time or you're new to the city, you're absolutely welcome to apply.
Can I come alone?
Yes β and most people do their first time. About half of guests at many events are new, so you won't be the only one. We design events to make it easy to meet people quickly, and there's always a mix of solo attendees and small groups.
How many people come to your events?
Events range from 30β50 for smaller mixers, 80β120 for happy hours, and 150β300+ for larger parties, with intentional capacity caps to maintain a social atmosphere.
Is there a cost to attend?
Some events are free, some are ticketed. Pricing depends on the venue and what's included. Many events include perks like drink tickets for early arrivals. If a ticket is required, you'll see it clearly on the event page.
Why do you approve tickets / limit attendance?
It's how we keep the vibe right. We aim for a balanced, high-quality group and avoid overcrowding. That means reviewing profiles, managing capacity, and sometimes pacing approvals (for example, to maintain a good gender balance). It's not about being exclusive β it's about making the experience better for everyone.
What if I'm outside the age range?
Our core is 30β45, but it's flexible. We're usually open to accepting guests within about Β±2 years if we think you'll be a good fit and there's strong potential for matches. If you're unsure, you can always apply β we'll guide you to the right event.
What if I'm not Jewish?
Our target audience is secular Jewish young professionals, and most guests are looking for romantic connections with someone of a similar faith. That said, we're open to non-Jewish guests if the vibe is right β plus-ones, partners, and friends are a normal part of our events.
Is this a singles event?
Most JSC events aren't officially labeled as singles events unless stated. That said, you can assume a large portion of guests are single and open to meeting someone. The focus is on organic connections β whether that turns into dating, friendships, or just a great night out.
What is JSC Crush?
JSC Crush is our optional matching feature at select events. Near the end of the night, you can anonymously 'crush' on people you met. If it's mutual, you'll both get each other's contact info after the event β no awkward asks, no pressure.
